2nd Chance-Charity for Animals is a non-profit group formed in January 2010 under the direction of Ms. Nancy Northcott. The sole purpose of the group is to raise desperately needed funds for animal welfare groups primarily within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Since its inception, to December 31, 2011, a total of $66,762.00 has been donated to various animal welfare groups and activities.

The majority of our fundraising comes from the sale of items that are donated by individuals like you. A continuous “supply” of new and/or quality items for resale - including clothing, household items, crafts, jewelry, fabric, music, books, etc. - are always needed to keep this Charity alive and growing.

Funds are raised by various means. A team of employees at Medavie Blue Cross organizes internal weekly auctions to help raise $3,000.00; following which Medavie Blue Cross will “match” this amount. Medavie Blue Cross will also donate $500.00 for each employee who volunteers 50 hours to a registered charity.

Since January 2010 we have operated a booth at Dartmouth Harborview Weekend Market, 42 Canal Street in downtown Dartmouth (across from the Curling Ring). We are located in Aisle 4 and sell adult clothing, books and misc items. Volunteers can “earn” $30.00 per 3.5-hour shift for their favorite animal welfare group.

In the Spring and Fall, we organize and hold a giant yard sale at 5 Scarfe Court in Burnside Industrial Park. (Across from NS SPCA Metro Shelter).
